I got this one off my shelf–not quite sure how it got there. It’s historical fiction, set in the years prior to the Revolutionary War, in Boston and England. Makepeace Burke, the protagonist, owns and manages a tavern in Boston; she rescues, falls in love with, and marries an English aristocrat and lives a fantasy life in England until he dies and she is ousted from her home by his first wife and her lover. She gets her revenge, although it isn’t easy.
It may not be very realistic, but the book has a good flavor of the times and places it describes.
A good beach read!
